Below is a note from Rev. James R. Van Dyke, S.J., president of Georgetown Preparatory School, to the School community on August 25, 2020.
Dear Members of the Georgetown Prep Community,
It is with great appreciation and gratitude that I announce the results from the 2019-2020 Georgetown Prep Annual Fund and the Prep Strong campaign. Thanks to the 2,164 generous alumni, members of the Board of Trustees, current and past parents, faculty, staff, and friends of the School, we celebrate having generated over $2.35 million in gifts, exceeding our goal of $1.95 million.
The first ever virtual Spring Gala netted $409,568 that directly supports the young men of Georgetown Prep, plus an additional $160,000 raised for the Prep Strong campaign through the Raise the Paddle. I want to thank our Gala chairs, Amber and Walter Hsu P'20, '21, Maria and Rob Welsh P'16, '16, '20, and Cheryl and Patrick Christmas '88, P'20, '23, '24. Their tireless efforts and remarkable organizational skills, as well as their creativity and perseverance in the face of overwhelming obstacles, made this Gala truly a memorable event.
I am particularly grateful for everyone who supported the Prep Strong: Keeping Our Family Together campaign. This ever-important short duration campaign was established to assist our families suffering from financial displacement due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Once again, the Prep community has risen to the challenge. In trying times, our community has proven itself to be there for one another. For this I am incredibly grateful.
Your contributions propel the School forward and ensure Georgetown Prep's success in educating our young men in the Catholic, Jesuit tradition that has been central to John Carroll's Academy on the Patowmack for 231 years.
On behalf of all us here at Georgetown Prep, I thank you for your continued support of our nation's oldest Catholic high school and only Jesuit boarding school.
Sincerely in Christ,
Rev. James R. Van Dyke, S.J.
President
