Mr. Stephen Irving '15 recently returned to Georgetown Prep to serve on the Alumni Service Corps. He grew up in Bowie, Maryland. While at Prep, Mr. Irving played soccer, participated in the Environmental Club, and served in the Love in Action leadership program. He matriculated to Yale University where he pursued a degree in Psychology.
What were you like as a student at Prep?
In high school I was a friendly kid who was (and still is) always smiling. I was fairly adventurous and liked to try out new sports and clubs. I also made an effort to wear some of the coolest ties I could find.
If you could live anywhere on the planet, where would you live?
Australia. Ever since I first saw Steve Irwin, the Crocodile Hunter, I've always wanted to work at the Australia Zoo and introduce myself saying, "Hi! I'm Steve Irving."
You can be any fictional character. Who are you?
I would probably be Superman so that I could fly and never have to sit in traffic again. The other superpowers are a nice perk, too.
Tell us something about yourself that we would never expect.
I once organized and led a flash mob. In college I was a dancer and choreographer of a group on campus, and we decided to stage a fight in the middle of a busy public area. A friend and I pretended to be having a loud argument when music started playing just before things got physical. A few other dancers joined in and we ended up with almost 25 people suddenly dancing in the middle of campus.
What has been your greatest achievement?
My greatest achievement is graduating from college. It truly felt like a major accomplishment. That moment was the culmination of years of hard work, learning, and growth. It was incredible to see so much joy from the friends and family who had cared and supported me throughout my life. I got a chance to reflect on all of the experiences that shaped who I am and led to that moment. I am incredibly thankful for the people, experiences, and opportunities in my life.
