The Georgetown Prep varsity hockey team and Coach Brian Danver won the 2019 Interstate Athletic Conference (I.A.C.) tournament championship on February 14 with a 2-1 victory over Landon.
The Hoyas, who won a share of the I.A.C. regular season championship with St. Albans and Landon, defeated St. Albans on Monday, 7-5, to advance to the I.A.C. championship game.
In the championship game, Prep took a 1-0 lead in the first period on a Patrick Fitzgerald '21 goal. After a scoreless second period, James Flannery '19 put the Hoyas up 2-0. Landon scored on a power play goal with two minutes left in the third period. Prep's defense and the outstanding play of goaltender Elon Granston '20 kept Landon out the net over the final two minutes and Prep would go on to win the tournament championship 2-1. Granston recorded 22 saves.
Prep now will compete in the MAPHL playoffs beginning next Tuesday, February 19.
The Hoyas improve to a 14-3-1 overall record and are ranked number two in the Washington, D.C., area by The Washington Post.
