The following is a letter from Rev. James R. Van Dyke, S.J., to the Georgetown Prep community on February 3, 2019.
Dear Georgetown Prep Community,
I am very sad to inform you that Mr. Gary Daum passed away last evening after a long illness.
I saw him this past week and have been in touch with his wife, Mary, over the past several days. In my conversation with Gary last week I was once again reminded of his enormous love for Prep--not just the institution or the place, but especially the people. He leaves an enormous legacy in the music, arts, and liturgical programs. He also leaves a hole in our hearts.
Please keep Mary and their daughter, Claire, and the whole family in your prayers.
Sincerely in Christ,
Rev. James R. Van Dyke, S.J.
President
