Dear Georgetown Prep Community,
Today, the Board of Trustees at The University of Scranton will announce that my religious superior, the Provincial of the Maryland Province, has missioned me to be the next President of the University.
Serving as president of Georgetown Prep, the nation's oldest Catholic and Jesuit school, is a great grace in my Jesuit life. Over the past three years, I have come to appreciate the uniqueness of this amazing Jesuit institution. Prep is an exceptionally special place, and it is special because of its passionate alumni, dedicated faculty and staff, and, especially, our talented students.
Each day of my service at the Prep has been a blessing that will forever live in my memory. It was here that I took my final vows, and here that I grew to understand fully the powerful and transformational experience of the nation's finest Jesuit high school education.
St. Ignatius Loyola was clear in his vision for the Society of Jesus that, "Our home is the road." Having served as the 24th president of the University of Scranton, I can tell you first hand, that both schools are exemplary models of Catholic education in the United States. I look forward to this next challenge and to bringing what I have learned from all of you at Georgetown Prep to Scranton, Pennsylvania.
My service in Scranton will begin in 2018. I am and will remain focused on our shared work until then. Gregory Dyson '76, P'11, '13, Chairman of the Board of Trustees, will write to you shortly with plans for choosing the next president.
May God bless you all and may God bless Georgetown Prep.
Sincerely,Scott R. Pilarz, S.J.
President
A Message from the Chairman of the Board of Trustees
The Board of Trustees congratulates Fr. Pilarz on his new assignment. He has been an exemplary leader and outstanding steward for Georgetown Prep during his tenure. Rooted in our Jesuit identity, we know he must go where the need to serve is greatest. We are grateful that Fr. Pilarz will continue to be leading us through the 2017 - 2018 school year which will facilitate a smooth transition to Father's successor.
Georgetown Prep is well positioned for continued success with an engaged community of students, parents, faculty and alumni alike. I have already appointed a committee of the Board to organize a search for Father's successor. In the coming weeks working with Fr. Pilarz and the Maryland Province, we will begin our search for the next great leader for Georgetown Prep who will uniquely embrace our Ignatian spirit.
Sincerely,
Gregory Dyson '76, P'11, '13
Chairman of the Board of Trustees
